Labor, Revenue, Immigration Authorities Begin Nationwide Compliance Inspection

Reeves, Sr.,LRA’s Commissioner General Elfrieda Stewart Tamba and Labor Minister KollieThe Ministry of Labor in partnership with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) and the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) yesterday began a vigorous and comprehensive nationwide compliance inspection exercise in the country. The exercise is intended for all employers to regularize the status of every alien employee within their employ and also make full disclosure on all alien employees within their workplace(s).The move, according to Labour Minister Moses Y. Kollie, is aimed at paving the way for the generation of much-needed revenue for the government and ensuring full compliance with the Decent Work Act of 2015, as well as all existing Labor Laws of Liberia.Minister Kollie, who launched the exercise in conjunction with the LRA and LIS, is also intended to remind employers and employees about their cardinal responsibilities in keeping with the Decent Work Act of 2015 as well as ensure that employers are in full adherence to the mandate.The Minister indicated that the joint team comprising of the LRA and LIS will go across the country to ensure that the task is fully implemented.Minister Kollie, therefore, encouraged employers and employees within the country to cooperate with the joint team.He informed the media that anyone who will violate the law or refuse to make available the records to the joint inspector team will be fined each staff the amount of US$3,000 to be paid into government’s revenue. This action, he said, is in keeping with Section 4(b) of Regulations Number 17 of 2009 of the Labor Laws of Liberia.“So in order to be successful with this exercise, we decided to partner with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) and the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) so that we can succeed in generating revenue for the country.“On this note, we want to assure you that we are confident that the Pro-Poor Agenda of President George Manneh Weah is well alive at the Ministry of Labor and the public can be assured that we will not give up,” he stressed.A statement from the Liberia Revenue Authority’s Commissioner General Elfrieda Stewart Tamba and the Commissioner of LIS, Col.
