City lifeguards retrieved the body and brought it to their main dock off Quivira Court on Mission Bay.Elshayeb was dressed only in surfer-style shorts, and his body bore no obvious signs of traumatic injuries, Lt. Anthony Dupree said. A potentially suspicious factor in the case, however, was a chain wrapped around the dead man’s waist, though it might have been used simply as a belt or style accessory, the lieutenant said.Homicide detectives were called in to investigate the fatality “out of an abundance of caution,” Dupree said.A ruling on the cause of Elshayeb’s death remains on hold pending completion of postmortem exams.Related: Police investigating body found off Mission Beach coast KUSI Newsroom, last_img
