Each year, the Department of Transportation and Public Works places restrictions on heavy trucks during spring thaw to help protect roads vulnerable to damage as frost leaves the ground. This year the department plans to impose restrictions at 12:01 a.m. on Monday, March 19. That date is subject to change, depending on weather, temperature and road conditions. “We know the trucking industry needs time to prepare for spring weight restrictions, which is why we try to give as much notice as possible,” said Angus MacIsaac, Minister of Transportation and Public Works. “We’re monitoring the roads daily to determine exactly when the restrictions need to begin.” A list of all roads exempt from the restrictions will be advertised in newspapers and on the department’s website at www.gov.ns.ca/tran .
