DEVENNEY – “PUT YOUR MONEY ON DONEGAL TO BEAT DUBLIN”

first_imgFormer Donegal and St Eunans star Brendan Devenney has no doubt Donegal would beat Dublin if the two sides were to meet.Former Donegal star Brendan Devenney believes Jim McGuinness has the tactical game plan to disrupt the all out attacking fluency possessed by Dublin.Devenney has no doubt should the two sides meet, that Donegal have the players and system to derail the swashbuckling style employed by Jim Gavin’s side.If Donegal defeat Armagh at Croke Park on Saturday, and Dublin defeat Monaghan directly afterwards, it would set up a tantalising All-Ireland semi-final clash between the two counties. According to Devenney it’s a game the whole country wants to see, and with two very contrasting styles of play on show it would be a fascinating battle.Devenney told the Irish Daily Star, “I have no doubt Donegal would win, if the two sides meet, I’d have no doubt at all that Donegal would emerge victorious.“”I just think when a tough defence meets a tough attack it’s easier to lock down a 45 than open it up.“This strength in depth that Dublin have – if their top six can’t break the defence, the other lads coming in aren’t going to have much joy. “I think when there’s players coming off the bench it suits when a game is opening up. But, you see with Donegal, it never does open up.“There is a lot of hype and if it does end up happening I think Donegal will be out to say ‘we’re going to stop your forward line’.Devenney also believes Dublin have problems with their defence, and likewise in the middle sector of the pitch, with Jim Gavin being so far unable to find a suitable partner for Michael Darragh Macauley.I think Dublin have their own problems in defence.“Outside of Michael Darragh Macauley, they don’t know who to be playing alongside him in midfield.” Devenney is expecting star Donegal forward duo Michael Murphy and Colm McFadden to up their respective displays once they hit Croke Park.“I think we haven’t really seen Murphy and McFadden shine that much this year.“If they were to play well, I just think Donegal’s defence would relish that forward line.DEVENNEY – “PUT YOUR MONEY ON DONEGAL TO BEAT DUBLIN” was last modified: August 6th, 2014 by Mark ForkerShare this:Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window)Click to share on Twitter (Opens in new window)Click to share on LinkedIn (Opens in new window)Click to share on Reddit (Opens in new window)Click to share on Pocket (Opens in new window)Click to share on Telegram (Opens in new window)Click to share on WhatsApp (Opens in new window)Click to share on Skype (Opens in new window)Click to print (Opens in new window)Tags:Brendan DevenneydonegaldublinnewsSportlast_img
